Dara KahkonenHoneybees & Sunbeams Preschool Teacher
Mrs. Kahkonen received her BA in Music Education from Ithaca College. She joined the program in 2012 as the instructor of the “KIDZ In Motion” music and movement class and then became a teacher in the preschool program. Prior to joining us, she taught private instrumental music lessons in Larchmont, NY and was the director of the All Saints Academy Elementary Music program. She is involved in several ministry programs here at South Canonsburg Church and serves on the Praise and Worship team. Mrs. Ali has an unending source of energy, and brings new ideas and enthusiasm to our program. She enjoys tapping into that same energy of a child to develop their learning potential.
Christina SpringerHoneybees & Sunbeams Preschool Teacher
Mrs. Springer received her BS in Elementary/Early Childhood Education from California University of Pennsylvania. She has been working with children since a teenager helping in her church nursery, Vacation Bible School, and in the daycare setting, as well as being a preschool parent for the last for the last year. She worked as a private nanny for six years before leaving to start her own family. Mrs Springer is excited to join the program as a Honeybees and Sunbeams teacher. She looks forward to encouraging the learning and development of children at such an early age.
Christine EnglishSTAR Preschool Teacher
Mrs. English has received her BS in Elementary-Special Education and MS as a Reading Specialist from California University of Pennsylvania. Before coming to Rainbowland she held positions in day care settings as an Assistant Group Supervisor and Lead Teaching. Her responsibilities included lesson planning, organize and prepare activities, supervise during meal times and assist others during the day care day. Christine also taught 7th and 8th grades at Holy Family Learning Center in Washington, PA until she decided to start her family. She continues sto volunteer regularly at her church in the nursery, teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. She is excited about working with children who are just beginning their educational journey.
Sarah IssacSunbeams Preschool Teacher
Mrs. Issac received her BA in English from Liberty University and her Masters of Arts in Secondary Education from Acacia University. Before joining Rainbowland she taught for seven years at a Christian School in Cairo, Egypt. She enjoyed running the middle school Humanities program which included curriculum development and implementation in English, History, and Geography for grades 6-8. She also taught special Social Studies classes in Kindergarten and first grade. Mrs. Issac is very involved in her local church, teaching Sunday School, volunteering for the nursery, and summer day camps. She also volunteers weekly with Go Time Ministries located in Finnlyville PA. Mrs. Issac will be assisting in all the programs as needed and is excited to be a part of the learning process and early development of our children.
Laurie SlovikS.T.A.R.S. Preschool Teacher
Mrs. Slovik has received her BA in Communications from Point Park College and associates degree in Graphic Design from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Prior to joining us in 2005, she worked with several other preschool programs in the area. She has brought unending creativeness to our program. Mrs. Slovik has great insight and understanding about the children and their creative talents. She receives great joy from seeing them excel and achieve their goals.
Mrs. KentrosSunbeam Preschool Teacher
Mrs. Kentros attended Faith Community Christian School in Bethel Park and Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky. She is an experienced educator, having served as a teacher at Rainbowland Preschool for five years before leaving to start a family of her own. She has been a private nanny, involved in her church in a teaching capacity for many of their Children’s programs, Vacation Bible School and on the Youth Leadership Team as well. During her early career, Mrs Kentros served as a Missionary to China, the Philippine's Mexico and France. She has always had a heart for children and is excited about returning to Rainbowland to help young children start their educational journey.
Rachel MumfordSunbeam Preschool Teacher
Mrs. Mumford received her BA in Public Relations from Westminster College and her Masters of Arts in Elementary Education from California University of PA. She was as a Substitute teacher in the Canon MacMillan School district for two years, coached the softball team and also served as Lead teacher for the toddler group at a local daycare, before she took leave to raise her family. Mrs. Mumford is very active in her church, teaching Children’s Church, volunteering for Vacation Bible School and serving as an Elder. She is excited for this opportunity and can’t wait to work with the children.
Kathy DaPraStaff Assistant for all Programs
Mrs. DaPra has a degree from the Advanced Program at the Bradford Business School in the medical/secretarial field. Prior to joining our program, she worked in Human Resource in various positions. Mrs. DaPray has volunteered for 6+ years at her church as Lead Teacher for the Sunday preschool program, the Girl’s Club, Kids Camp, Vacation Bible School and acts as the Musical Production Assistant for the Children’s Music Ministry. She also helps out at the local Christian School as needed. Mrs. DaPra’s dedication to working with children will be an asset to our program. She enjoys helping them learn, while instilling Godly values into their lives.
Gretchen PorterStaff Assistant for all Programs
Mrs. Porter graduated from Trinity High School and went on to pursue paralegal studies at Bradford School of Business. While her two children attended the Sunbeam and S.T.A.R.S. programs, Mrs. Porter volunteered frequently. She is a member of the PTA at her child’s school, volunteers with the hockey league and helps teaching the children at her church on Sunday’s. In 2014 she became part of Rainbowland Preschool family assisting the staff in many ways and is happy to be rejoining the program in the same capacity. Mrs. Porter has a tender spot in her heart for young children and desires to see them grow strong in their faith.
